Who Do You See When You Look at Yourself?
The image we see reflected in the mirror does not match what others see when they look at us.
When the need to be “recognized” becomes stronger than the need to “recognize ourselves,” our identity dissolves in the eyes of others.
With surgical precision, we select the images of ourselves that are most pleasing to others, and in a continuous whirlwind fueled by dissatisfaction and the search for approval, we shape our personality.
The truth of the self crumbles into images that diverge from our essence, creating a detachment that can only be reconciled in the gaze of another.
